EL CAJON (1-18-17) — Granite Hills’ JORDEN ROGERS owned the Valhalla Norsemen in Tuesday’s (Jan. 17) non-league encounter at Granite Hills.
The 5-foot-10 senior guard nailed 7 treys on his way to a game-high 24 points, as the Eagles downed rival Valhalla, 59-52.
RYAN KELLY pitched in 16 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished 5 assists and made 2 blocks for the Eagles.
CAMERON SPITZER tossed in 8 points, dished 5 assists and grabbed 2 rebounds.
MOSES SMITH was big on the boards with 10 rebounds to go with 5 points.
“Our three seniors came through big. RYAN KELLY, JORDEN ROGERS and CAMERON SPITZER played big minutes for us tonight,” said Granite Hills coach RANDY ANDERSON. “They really came through down the stretch.”
For Valhalla, RAMZI SULTAN rolled a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, while EVAN O’NEILL posted 12 points and KAI KOMAKI nailed 11.
“We turned it over too many times,” said Valhalla assistant coach SCOTT STURGEON. “Their shooter, No. 4 (Jorden Rogers) hit 7 threes on us. We didn’t do a good enough job contesting his shots.”

CORONADO 70, CHRISTIAN 64 — In a battle for the Central League championship, Coronado (4-0) blazed its way to a 70-64 victory over the Christian Patriots on Tuesday (Jan. 17).
The Patriots continue to scramble for the title, backed by NASHOM CARTER’S 31 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. He was 3 for 4 on treys.
“I’m doing everything I can to work on the defensive end, but today my teammates showed me heart and integrity and that’s all I asked for,” Carter said. “Down the stretch, we just need to take care of the ball so we can end the game.”
DOMANIC SAFARTA hit 3 threes, scored 9 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, made 3 assists and one steal for Christian.
JACKSON LARSEN scored 2 triples on his way to a 12 point outing.
Christian (2-2) finds itself in a crowded arena. In addition to Coronado, Christian trails University City, which rolled its record to 4-0, and is tied with Point Loma (2-2).
“Each team had the lead at times, it was a back and forth game,” said Patriots assistant coach TIM BROWN. “There were too many mistakes down the stretch. We didn’t give ourselves a chance.”

“They played extremely hard,” said Monte Vista coach MIKE TULLY. “The game was decided in the second quarter. We were outscored 26-5 in the second – they hit 5 threes in the second quarter. Because of that we fell behind and never really made it up.”
