EL CAJON (1-7-17) — Mira Costa College rolled over Grossmont College 76-67 on Friday (Jan. 6) in the Pacific Coast Conference South league.
The Griffins fell to 2-12 overall while Mira Costa improved to 6-9.
On Wednesday, Grossmont was pounded by the state’s sixth-ranked team Palomar 87-55 in North County.
SATORI ROBERSON led the Griffins with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks, while KHIYA MOHAMED rolled a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds and had one assist, one steal and 2 blocks.
Palomar (13-2) put five players in double figures, led by Allie Israel’s 18 points. Israel and Kendall Crosby (12 points) each knocked down 4 of the Comets’ 13 baskets from behind the 3-point arc.
Palomar started slowly, going 5 minutes, 12 seconds without a point late in the first quarter, which allowed Grossmont to battle the Comets to a 15-15 tie entering the second period.
Palomar then went on a 52-24 run in the second and third quarters to lead 67-39 entering the fourth period and twice led by 35 points before Grossmont closed the gap to the final 32-point margin.
