NATIONAL CITY (1-6-17) — Mission Bay pulled an upset on Granite Hills in Thursday’s (Jan. 5) Sweetwater New Year’s Tournament game, defeating the Eagles 44-42.
CHASE ROBLES led Granite Hills with 16 points, while ANYANG AGOTH added 9, and SHANICE LACY contributed 8 more.
“The basketball gods have spoken,” said Eagles coach CURTIS NORWOOD wryly. “When you don’t honor the sacred covenants – ‘thou shall not turn the ball over; thou shall not miss free throws; thou shall not miss layups; thou shall not leave shooters open; thou shall not divert from the script’ . . . or thou will not win ball games.”
The Eagles trailed 24-15 at halftime before rallying with a 17-9 advantage in the third to get right back in the game.
With one day before they will play again on Saturday (Jan. 7) the ‘covenants’ will likely be reviewed extensively. The Eagles will play at 5:30 in the Sweetwater New Year’s Tournament against an opponent to be determined.
Granite Hills: Chase Robles 16, Anyang Agoth 9, Shanice Lacy 8, Kani Kubari 4, Cynthia Garcia 3, Shelby Ripberger 2.
