BONITA (12-30-16) — The offensive powerhouse Grossmont Foothillers made it look ugly as they put the squeeze on Orange Glen 57-14 in Thursday’s (Dec. 29) Bonita Optimist Tournament lopsided action.
TYANA WARSAW led the charge for the 12-3 Foothillers with 26 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks.
GRACE CERCADO pitched in 15 points and CANDACE HENDERSON added 11 points.
ATHENA SOTELO dished 10 assists and pulled down 6 rebounds.
Grossmont: Tyana Warsaw 26 (12 reb, 3 blk), Grace Cercado 15 (3 stl), Candace Henderson 11 (2 ast, 2 stl), Athena Sotelo 6 (10 ast, 6 reb, 4 stl), Nailah McDuffie 2.
EL CAPITAN 31, MT. CARMEL 19 – El Capitan was up by 13 points in Thursday’s (Dec. 29) SoCal Holiday Prep Classic NAIA Division semifinal, and held Mt. Carmel to 0 points in the third quarter.
“They went on a 7-0 run and MARIE COOK hit a 3-pointer with 3 minutes left in the game to put us up by 9,” recalled Vaqueros assistant coach ROCKY COOK.
Cook led the way with 15 points, including 3 treys, and 6 rebounds, while STEPHANIE ADAMS punched in 11 points and grabbed 19 rebounds and made 8 blocks, plus an assist and a steal.
“We finished in a 3-way tie in the tournament with Mt. Carmel and Rancho Buena Vista and we won it with the fewest points allowed,” he added.
“So now we will play in the championship game tomorrow (Friday, Dec. 30) against Canyon Crest at Del Norte at 11:30 a.m.”
El Capitan: Marie Cook 15 (6 reb, 1 ast), Stephanie Adams 11 (19 reb, 1 ast, 8 blk, 1 stl), Jordan Grandy 4 (3 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl), Devon Bullock 1 (1 reb, 1 ast).
WEST HILLS 64, EL TORO 47 – The score was tied at 26 apiece at halftime of Thursday’s (Dec. 29) SoCal Holiday Prep Classic NCAA (Black Division) game, with West Hills notching 6 points in the opening quarter.
The Wolf Pack staged a comeback in the second quarter and continued on through the second half to seal the victory.
“We started off very slow, the girls were not ready to play,” said Wolf Pack coach RYAN KINSER. “We picked up the intensity in the 2nd quarter and that continued on throughout the rest of the game.”
“KERRIE DANIELS played huge tonight scoring 26, 18 of those in the second half. VIVIAN PANELA played well with 12 points and 8 assists.”
West Hills will host Cathedral Friday (Dec. 30) morning at 9:30.

The Braves still came up short as SUMAYA HAMEED, who dropped in 4 of 10 shots including a triple for 9 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals kept the Braves on course.
However, El Cajon Valley could not catch the Spartans.

El Cajon Valley: Leanna Watson 26 (6 reb, 2 ast, 5 stl), Sumaya Hameed 9 (3 reb, 2 stl), Vean Gorgees 2 (4 reb, 1 stl), Erica Bazile 2 (4 reb), Lillian Adintende 2 (3 reb, 1 ast, 4 stl), Rania Noori (4 reb).
RAINIER BEACH 61, MOUNT MIGUEL 51 – The game was not exactly what coach ROBBIE SANDOVAL expected in Thursday’s (Dec. 29) contest against Rainier Beach, and he hopes to right the ship against Great Oaks on Friday (Dec. 30) in the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic WNBA Division.
Mount Miguel took the lead 28-24 but could not maintain the advantage because “we just couldn’t do anything right,” Sandoval said.
The loss was the 5th straight for Sandoval, who has never experienced a losing streak that lengthy.
