CHULA VISTA (12-2-16) — In an unusual match-up between undefeated Christian (12-0) and unbeaten Bishop’s (12-0) for the Division III San Diego Section championship Saturday (Dec. 3) at 11 a.m. at Southwestern College, it will be sort of a family affair.
Defensive coordinator MIKE MITCHELL, whose Christian Patriots are perennial champions, will face the Knights of Bishop’s, who will have Mike’s son DANNY MITCHELL, a Christian alum, coaching in the game as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
“I’m really excited to coach against my alma mater and family,” said the younger Mitchell.
Danny Mitchell spent last year in Germany coaching the Osnabrook Tigers, teaching them American football.
Meanwhile, PATRICK KELLY, who lived in with the Mitchells when he was 12 is the defensive coordinator at Santana.
Danny and Patrick played for Mike Mitchell at Christian when he was head coach.
Danny went on to play quarterback at Willamette University in Salem, Ore.
Patrick played at Grossmont College and Nebraska-Kearney.
This should be fun.
