Griffins drop weekend pair after opening tourney thrill

SAN BERNARDINO (11-21-16) — The final two rounds of the San Bernardino Valley College tournament bode ill for the Grossmont Griffins, who dropped their final two games Saturday (Nov. 19) against East Los Angeles and West Los Angeles Sunday (Nov. 20) in the three-game set.

RONALD BLAIN, a transfer from San Diego Christian out of Union Grove High in Georgia, knocked down 27 points as the Griffins (3-3) came up short in the final challenge against West L.A. in Sunday’s consolation finals, 76-69.

In the third place game, BRYCE PARSONS pumped in 15 points in the loss against West L.A.

In the semifinals against East Los Angeles, the Griffins fell 65-75. Blain had 19 points and OSCAR LIMON tossed in 14, while DANIEL McCOWN added 12 points.

Next up for Grossmont is a matchup at El Camino-Compton Center on Nov. 2 at 5 p.m.
