HASTINGS, Neb. (9-6-16) — Freshman ADRIAN PETTY has become an instant hit for the Hastings College Broncos football team, which belted Bethany 42-3 in this weekend’s season opener.
A 5-foot-6, 160-pound Christian High graduate, Petty piled up 28 yards and a touchdown on 8 carries in the lop-sided victory in the KCAC/GPAC Challenge.
Petty scored his first two touchdowns of the season on consecutive possessions for the Broncos and finished 8 for 28 yards and 2 scores. His first score gave the Broncos a 14-0 lead with a 7-yard run.
Meanwhile, not to be outdone, Steele Canyon graduate and Broncos sophomore JORDAN JOHNSON had 4 receptions for 136 yards and 2 touchdowns in the romp over Bethany.

You go, Sergio: Former Grossmont College wide receiver SERGIO BAILEY zeroed in on 3 passes for 33 yards, helping Eastern Michigan mash Mississippi Valley State, 61-14.

Runnin’ Rebels don’t break stride: Helix alum, 6-foot, 177-pound freshman MEKHI STEVENSON reeled in a pass in his college debut for 11 yards as the UNLV Rebels riddled Jackson State, of Mississippi, at 63-13.

Collins catching on: Versatile SETH COLLINS (Granite Hills) of Oregon State University continues to split his time as a passer and a receiver, despite being named a starting wideout for the Beavers’ opener. Out of the shotgun formation, Collins took off running on six carries, but the former OSU starting QB made an impact as a pass catcher, as he received 5 passes for 57 yards for the Beavers against the Minnesota Golden Gophers in a 30-23 victory on Thursday.

USD MVP Lawrence back for opener after broken leg in ’15 finale: University of San Diego quarterback and Grossmont High graduate ANTHONY LAWRENCE completed 17 of 26 passes for 211 yards for a touchdown as the Toreros toppled Western New Mexico 27-0.

Pro news on Seau, Littleton: The Los Angeles Rams deleted former Grossmont College defensive end IAN SEAU in their final cuts. However, University of Washington/Mount Miguel defensive end CORY LITTLETON qualified for the final roster for the Rams.
