SAN DIEGO (4-20-16) — Grossmont College had a three-way sweep of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Women’s Athlete of the Week award named on Tuesday (April 19).
Griffin softball player KATIE SCHMIDT and beach volleyball players Tiffany Cobian and Hannah Doonan were all named to the honor by the Conference.
Schmidt, a freshman from Valhalla, went 7-for-10 including a pair of doubles, a triple, four runs scored and five runs batted in. She helped the Griffins sweep a three game week with a sacrifice fly and a stolen base. The Griffin left fielder will transfer cross-country to NYU after this season, had such a fine week that her batting average rose to over the .400 mark.
The volleyball duo from Lakewood high and San Dimas High respectfully, swept the week against Mira Costa and Mesa by identical 2-0 scores. For the season the pair are 18-1 which has helped the Griffins to back-to-back PCAC team championships.
