EL CAJON (4-16-16) — The Christian Patriots rallied from an early deficit Friday (Apr. 15) to keep pressure on Coronado in the race for the Central League pennant.
The Patriots knocked off visiting Serra 7-3 to improve their league record to 2-0 and overall mark to 10-7.
Trailing 1-0 the Patriots tied the game in the third inning as CHASE WEHSNER walked and darted to third on a double by ZACH HOGUIESSON off the right field fence. Wehsener scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly by JUSTIN LEDGERWOOD.
Christian edged in front in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out rally. Winning pitcher NATHAN JARVIS singled and NATE CAZARES was hit by a pitch. That set the stage for a ground rule double by KYLE STOWERS.
The Patriots broke the game open with 4 markers in the fifth. They loaded the bases on a single by HOGUIESSON, a walk to Ledgerwood and a bunt single by JOHN GERSHOW. GARRETT NIELSEN then flashed an RBI single and JAKOB BECK drove in 2 more with a base hit.
Serra handed the Patriots their last run of that inning on a wild pitch.
Christian tagged on an extra run in the sixth inning as Wehsener singled, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on a basehit by Gershow.
Jarvis allowed only one run and 6 hits to post his 3rd win in five decisions.
