EL CAJON (4-7-16) – Two current Grossmont College pitchers have earned scholarships for the 2017 season to four-year universities.
The Griffins’ pitching ace ALAN STRONG has committed to UNLV, while Griffins sophomore hurler DJ LEWIS has committed to the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky.
Strong, who is helping drive the Griffins to the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship, owns a 7-1 record and a 1.79 ERA. He has struck out 56 in 65.1 innings.
There is a strong possibility, however, that Strong, a 6-foot-3 right-hander, will be drafted before cracking the books in Las Vegas.
Lewis, meanwhile, is a converted outfielder, a position he played during his career at West Hills High School. The left-hander is basically untested on the bump, but the NAIA Patriots of the Cumberlands believe he has the makeup to hone his skills as a pitcher.
Excited to announce I have verbally committed to UNLV to play baseball and continue my education. @unlvbaseball ⚾️ pic.twitter.com/KcVpeMipgY
