RANCHO SAN DIEGO (3-23-16) — After a sluggish start to the season, Steele Canyon erupted for 29 runs in its last two games, including a 13-3 knockout of San Ysidro in the 66th Annual Lion’s Tournament 6A Division contest on Tuesday (Mar. 22).
The key blow in a 6-run second inning was a 3-run double by LUKE ARIAS. Arias then scored on a triple by AVERY TUCK.
In the fourth inning, Tuck slammed his second triple of the game to left center field, scoring Arias. Tuck then trotted home on a basehit by JOSH ESQUIBEL.
In the sixth inning – after capitalizing on errors and walks in the 3-run fifth that included a sacrifice fly by Esquibel and a single to center by TREVOR ROW – the Cougars closed the door in the sixth inning on back-to-back RBI doubles by MATTHEW BAGDASAR and JASE RUSSELL.
Russell spear-headed Steele Canyon’s 15 hit attack with a 3-for-5 effort. Arias also collected 3 hits, while Tuck, Esquibel, Row and KANE FIEDLER chipped in with 2 hits apiece.
Row worked the first six innings, earning only two earned runs while striking out seven to post the victory for Steele Canyon (4-3).

WEST LINN, Ore. 7, EL CAPITAN 6 – Facing off against the defending state champion Lions from West Linn, Oregon, El Capitan came close to an upset in Tuesday’s (Mar. 22) 66th Annual Lion’s Tournament Classic Division contest.
After falling behind the Lions (by a 5-1 count) El Capitan continued on its way to pound out a 12-hit attack. KENNY OLHAUSER was the main stick in the El Capitan offense as he was 3-for-4 with 5 RBI. He singled in a run in the first inning, and then hammered a 2-run homer in the third frame.
Olhauser’s onslaught continued in fifth inning as he singled, stole a base and drove in a run.
With the Vaqueros trailing 7-5 entering the sixth inning, TRISTEN DUNCAN singled but was erased on the Oregonians’ double play. But the Vaqueros kept coming as DAWSON McCLANAHAN and VICTOR CARLINO both knocked back-to-back singles and Olhauser drove in his fifth run with a base hit.
That’s where the El Capitan rally stalled. This is a team that swings the bat. Olhauser is batting .478 (11-for-23), while Carlino is 12-for-27 for a .444 average. He was 4-for-4 against West Linn.
