CALEXICO (3-12-16) – In one of the three contests of the day that was able to be played due to heavy rains across the county, the El Capitan Vaqueros traveled down to the desert to take on the Bulldogs of Calexico. Unfortunately the Vaqueros couldn’t get the bats going as they were blanked 9-0.
The Bulldogs in the bottom of the first inning took advantage of their opportunities and were able to score six runs to lead 6-0. Despite trailing the Vaqueros put together a threat in the top of the third inning as with only one out TESSA LOHMAN (1-2) and ELENA LADDON (1-2) raked back to back singles to send the Vaqueros runners to first and second base. Unfortunately the threat was deterred as the next two batters flew out to end the inning.
The Vaqueros again would have a runner in scoring position in the top of the fourth thanks to a one out double by GRACE BURKETT (1-3, 2B) but she would be stranded as the next two batters would be retired to end the threat. Calexico would add a couple more runs in the bottom of the fourth to round out their scoring.
