IRVINE (3-7-16) — The Pacific West Conference (NCAA Division II) named Dixie State’s MARK OGDEN JR. Defensive Player of the Year during the conference’s tournament this past weekend at Concordia University, Irvine.
Ogden, a Steele Canyon High and Grossmont College alumni, led the Red Storm and PacWest Conference in rebounds with 10.4 per contest. That placed him 12th in the Nation. Of the 26 games that Dixie State played this season, he notched double-figures in rebounding 16 times, including the final nine games of the campaign. The senior from Spring Valley was third in the 14-team circuit in blocks averaging 1.1 blocks per game.
The 6-foot-9 forward registered a double-double in 12 games, the top mark in the conference which placed him in the top 20 on the NCAA Division II level. As far as scoring is concerned, Mark averaged 13.5 points per game.
The Pacific West Conference named him Defender of the Week three times over the course of the 2015-16 season.
Dixie State finished as part of a four-way tie for the conference title along with Concordia University, Irvine (ineligible to participate in the NCAA Regionals as they are transitioning to Division II from the NAIA ranks), tournament runners-up Azusa Pacific University and tournament champions California Baptist University.
The field of 64 for the NCAA Division II basketball championships will be announced Sunday (Mar. 7) at 7:30 p.m. PST.
