CHULA VISTA — The Christian boys soccer team beat Chula Vista Learning Community Center, 1-0, in the San Diego CIF Division V finals at Olympian High on Friday to claim their second-ever section title and first since capturing the Division IV crown in 1999.
Late in the first half, senior Michael Tobiason scored on a shot from the top of the 18-yard box just inside the right post.
Drew Waymire made three saves in goal for the shutout.
The Patriots beat Brawley, 4-3, in the semifinals after opening the playoffs with a 2-0 win over Imperial
The fourth-seeded Patriots (16-7-2) were led by coach Cameron Riley. Christian played its season in honor of late teammate Jason Lyon.
