2015-16 EAST COUNTY PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL – SDSCIF DIVISION IV SEMIFINALS

EL CAJON (3-2-16) — It’s been more than 10 years that the Grossmont High girls have captured a basketball championship. It’s been even longer since they have appeared in a San Diego CIF championship game – like never.
The Foothillers (24-5) will get their shot at a section crown when they face Crawford (17-9) in the Division IV final Friday (Mar. 4) at 11 a.m. at USD’s Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Grossmont, in Tuesday’s (Mar. 1) semifinal bout against visiting Holtville, rolled to a 65-46 victory to eliminate the Vikings.
The Foothillers took a 20-13 first quarter lead and stretched their advantage to 35-23 by intermission.
The Hillers put the game away in the third quarter on an 18-10 scoring run.
Ten Grossmont players contributed to the scoring totals against Holtville.
TAISHA SILAS led the way with 16 points – more than half of them coming on 4 treys.
ATHENA SOTELO chipped in with 14 points, 2 triples, 4 assists and 5 steals.
Grossmont got a surprising lift from GRACE CERRADO, who pitched in 10 points and notched 2 steals.
Stalwart EMILY BARNES yanked down 10 rebounds and chipped in 8 points.
Holtville’s Kenya Serrano led the Vikings with 11 points, while Jasmine Ponce added 10.
