Griffins run into SoCal No. 1 Mt. San Jacinto

HEMET (1-21-16) — The Grossmont College women’s basketball team found out on Wednesday (Jan. 20) why the Mt. San Jacinto Screamin’ Eagles are ranked No. 1 in Southern California.

The undefeated Eagles (20-0) opened the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division by rocking the Griffins 79-48 in a game that wasn’t that close.

The Eagles took a 26-6 first quarter lead and were cruising 54-12 by intermission.

No other details were reported.

BARRAMEDA

Meanwhile, Grossmont College’s CHRISTINA BARRAMEDA was honored as Women’s Athlete of the Week for Jan. 4-10 by the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.

Barrameda, a 5-foot-6 sophomore guard from Ramona High School, played a huge role as the Griffins tipped off their PCAC schedule with a 64-38 victory over MiraCosta, giving Karen Caires her 200th win as the Grossmont coach.

Barrameda contributed 22 points, four rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot, going 9-for-18 from the field and knocking down four 3-pointers, as Grossmont jumped out to a 12-0 lead after the first quarter and continued on to the win.
