SANTEE (1-16-16) — In a contest that many figured would be close and go in favor of the El Cajon Valley Braves, the host Santana Sultans had other ideas as they took the 48-25 victory in Grossmont Valley league play, Friday (Jan. 15).
Things started out well for the Braves as they were able to lead early on 9-5 after one period of play.
However things changed as the Sultans woke up and poured in 22 points in the second quarter to lead 27-17 at the break. Santana would also claim the third period 13-4 to lead 40-21 after three periods.
Doing her best to keep the Braves in the contest, LEANNA WATSON led them in scoring as she poured in 14 points. Pacing the Sultans was KOBIE HOLLAND who punched in 17 points.
El Cajon Valley: Leanna Watson 14, Mary Awadich 7, Sumaya Hameed 3, Kaheen Hasan 2, Titishia Clemons 2.
GRANITE HILLS 52, MONTE VISTA 17 – Granite Hills race-horsed to an 18-1 third quarter lead in Friday’s (Jan. 14) Grossmont Hills League opener in El Cajon.
“This was a tale of two halves,” remarked Granite Hills coach CURTIS NORWOOD. “We got off slow, but came around in the second quarter and everybody got to play.”
The Eagles trailed Monte Vista 7-5 in the first quarter but slammed the door thereafter, garnering a 32-5 middle two quarters lead.
Ten Eagles scored in the romp, led by RAELLEAH MOORE’s 15 points and MICAYELA HERNANDEZ’ 11. Moore netted 6 of 10 shots from the field and 3 of 5 free throws. Hernandez contributed one trey and was 3 of 5 points from the free throw line.
Granite Hills: Raelleah Moore 15, Micayela Hernandez 11, Diamind Hollis 8, Kani Kubari 6, Shanice Lacey 4, Anyang Agoth 3, Miranda Brown 3, Chase Robles 2, Delaney Casey 1.

STEELE CANYON 67, EL CAPITAN 27 – ASHLEY TAVIZON led the Steele Canyon Cougars in Friday night’s (Jan. 15) Grossmont Valley League opening victory over El Capitan with 16 points, while JULES LOIBL pitched in 12 points and MARIE ESTAVILLO added 10.
MARIE COOK led the Vaqueros with 13 points including hitting 7 of 8 free throws in the losing cause.
TAYLOR FAGAN landed a pair of treys to finish with 8 for El Capitan.

KEARNY 65, CHRISTIAN 36 – In a Central League match reminiscent of David vs. Goliath, Christian battled heavyweight Kearny (5-10, 2-0) to no avail in Friday’s (Jan. 15) encounter.
