SAN DIEGO – Christian High speedster Adrian Petty, one of the top players ever out of the private school on Greenfield Drive, returned the opening kickoff of the 26th annual Alex Spanos All-Star Football Classic 90 yards for touchdown.
It was one of the few highlights of the night, however, for the South squad, as four second-half turnovers helped the North come back from a 17-point first-half deficit to win the game at San Diego Mesa College, 48-17, Saturday night.
Petty was named MVP for the South squad.
The win snapped the South’s five-game winning streak and evens the series at 11-11 since the game went to a North-South format.
The North’s 48 unanswered points all came in the second half, as the South had 19 plays for zero or negative yards and finished with 27 rushes for 78 yards for the game. The South completed just 4 of 16 passes for 56 yards.
Members of the South team included Christian High wide receiver NICK SEXTON, Valhalla quarterback PHILLIP NASEH, Christian High quarterback DAVID TODD JEREMIAH, Helix linebacker TYLER CLANTON, Valhalla linebacker LOGAN BAKER, El Capitan Christian 1000-yard running back ADRIAN PETTY, linebacker CHANCE COLSON, Helix heralded defensive end FORREST HANLON (6-2, 240), Santana center JACOB KITTEN (6-2, 275), Granite Hills defensive end JACOB BURTON (6-6, 220) and El Capitan linebacker JOSHUA BENSON.
