NATIONAL CITY (1-7-16) — The Granite Hills Eagles posted their 3rd straight win as they dumped Otay Ranch 44-37 in Wednesday’s (Jan. 6) semifinals of the Sweetwater Holiday Tournament.
MICAYELA HERNANDEZ whistled in 25 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished one scoring pass as Granite Hills balanced its season slate at 6-6.
The Eagles built up a 20 point lead in the first half but wound up struggling at the end.
The game was eventually decided at the free throw line where the Eagles made 5 of 6 charity shots to maintain a narrow advantage.
EMMA KUBARI hit 2 free throws as did MIRANDA BROWN, and CHASE ROBLES tagged on a fifth.
RAELLEAH MOORE punched in 12 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and notched 4 steals.
“It was like two different games,” said Granite Hills coach CURTIS NORWOOD. “For us it’s been a little bit of this and a little bit of that. You never know what we’re going to do, minute to minute.”
Granite Hills survived 24 turnovers to pull out the victory.
“We have a lot of work to do but I’m happy that we’re 6-6 at this point,” Norwood said.
