EL CAJON (1-6-16) — The visiting West Hills Wolf Pack were able to extend their winning streak to 4 games thanks to a 45-43 victory over Granite Hills in a Grossmont Conference crossover contest Tuesday (Jan 5).
On paper this was a mismatch but on the court the Eagles gave the Wolf Pack all they could handle in the first quarter for the game as it was only a 9-8 lead for West Hills.
The Eagles were able to take some control in the second quarter as they limited the Wolf Pack to 8 points and tallied 15 of their own to lead 23-17 at the break.
The Wolf Pack were led by BRYCE PARSONS who turned in a double-double of 14 points and 17 rebounds and also D’ANTE HILL who also poured in 14 points including 4 treys.
They would need all those stats as the Eagles who were led by RYAN KELLY and his 14 points and DAVID SETTERBERG who tallied 13 points would take the low scoring third quarter 9-6 and lead 32-23 going into the final stanza.
Unfortunately the Eagles couldn’t hold the offense of the West Hills down for long as the Pack was able to pounce on their opportunities and put up 22 points and limit the Eagles to 11 points.
Despite the low scoring the Eagles had a shot to win the ball game in the final seconds as Setterberg was able to get open for a game winning three, but unfortunately the ball hit off the rim.
West Hills: Bryce Parsons 14 (17 reb, 3 stl, 1 ast), D’Ante Hill 14 (2 reb, 1 stl), Marquell Cool 7 (2 reb, 1 ast), Cameron Barry 6 (2 reb, 3 ast, 2 stl), Cesar Curet 4 (3 reb, 1 ast), Kyle Ruiz (5 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl, 2 blk), Chris Moyer (6 reb), Spencer Moyer (2 reb, 1 ast), Marcos Ovies (2 stl), Nathan Ball (1 reb).
Granite Hills: Ryan Kelly 14 (9 reb, 1 ast, 3 stl), David Setterberg 13 (7 reb, 3 stl), Jacob Burton 6 (7 reb, 1 stl), Cameron Spitzer 5 (7 reb, 1 stl), Darien Cosio 5 (1 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl), Dylan Garcia (1 reb, 1 blk).
