EL CAJON (12-31-15) — The Grossmont College women’s basketball team dropped the third place game of the 28th annual Grossmont College Holiday Tournament on Wednesday (Dec. 30) to Barstow College by a 66-58 score.
JUSTINE GARDE (Granite Hills) led the Griffins (3-10) with 14 points on four of eight shooting. As a team, Grossmont shot 40 percent from the field including half of their three point shots.
Barstow (10-8) took control in the first quarter by jumping out to a 20-11 edge at the end of the first quarter. Most of that was on 8-of-16 shooting from the field.
Grossmont cut into the Vikings lead in the second and third quarters.
In the fourth quarter, the Griffins brought the lead down to two points when DOMINIQUE MORRISON (Santana) hit two of her nine points just 106 seconds into the half. With five points in just twenty seconds, Barstow pushed their lead back to seven points. That was as close as the Griffins would get the rest of the way.
The Griffins were put into the third place game after Santa Ana defeated them on Tuesday 75-59. In that game, the Griffins had three of their starters in double figures.
JAZMINE BRADLEY (Monte Vista) was named to the tournament’s All-Tournament team as a result of her good play in the previous two games. For the tournament Bradley averaged 11.3 points per game and grabbed 6.3 rebounds per contest.
Grossmont will now have to regroup and get ready for the second portion of the season when they host Imperial Valley College this coming Wednesday (Jan. 6). Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
