Lindley could share QB duties in Indy on Sunday
- Updated: December 29, 2015
From staff and wire reports
INDIANAPOLIS – Ryan Lindley threw for the Denver Broncos last week, then had probably planned to go back to driving his car for Uber in the Phoenix area after the holidays.
Now, its the Indianapolis Colts that are giving Lindley a “ping,” requesting his services this Sunday at home against the Tennessee Titans in a final-week contest.
The Broncos didn’t need Llindley, but the four-year veteran will now join Josh Freeman in Indianapolis. The former El Capitan and San Diego State star was most recently with the Patriots and last year started a playoff game with the Cardinals. He also was a member of the Chargers’ practice squad last season.
All three of the quarterbacks who have played for the Colts this season — Andrew Luck, Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst — are currently injured. So the Colts needed some warm bodies heading into Week 17, and now they’ve got Lindley and Freeman on the roster. Also on the Colts’ roster is Stephen Morris, a recent arrival from the Eagles’ practice squad.
With Whitehurst on injured reserve and both Luck and Hasselbeck seeming unlikely to play this week, the Colts will have to choose among Lindley, Freeman and Morris to start on Sunday. Despite the disaster that is the Colts’ quarterback situation, they’re still technically alive in the AFC South, although they’re almost certainly going to be eliminated even if they somehow find a way to win on Sunday.
And Lindley will be able to save the wear and tear on his car for this week with his one-week paycheck from the Colts.
