EL CAJON (12-13-15) — Grossmont College Associate Dean of Athletics JIM SPILLERS is moving on to a new venue.
In somewhat of a surprising move, Spillers has accepted a position at Southwestern College as the Dean of the School of Wellness, Exercise and Athletics, effective January 4, 2016. He will be replacing Terry Davis, who resigned his post following the Jaguars football season.
Colleagues were shocked to learn the news Saturday night (Dec. 12) when word of the change went viral.
Spillers, however, could not be reached for comment.
Spillers has been a member of the Grossmont College athletic administration for more than a decade. He oversees the college’s 16 intercollegiate athletic teams’ annual budget, close to $900,000.
A San Diego State University alum where he competed in track and field, Spillers is also a graduate of the California community colleges.
Nearly 500 student athletes participate in nine women’s and seven men’s sports teams at Grossmont College.
In addition to his duties as Associate Dean of Athletics, Spillers has served in a number of leadership roles.
He and his wife Gloria reside in Del Cerro with their two children.
