EUGENE, Ore. (12-1-15) — Freshman quarterback SETH COLLINS scored three times off the bench to hurtle Oregon State to a hard fought loss to No. 18 Oregon before falling 52-42 in the 119th Edition of the Civil War.
Collins, a product of Granite Hills, played receiver and quarterback in his first appearance since the Oct. 24 Colorado game. He gained 39 yards on nine attempts to increase his Oregon State’s total to a team-leading 575 yards – third all-time in a single season at OSU. He passed the 1962 Heisman Trophy winner Terry Baker.
Collins’ scores came on his nine rushes for 39 yards. He scored on a 3-yard run, a 1-yard run and a 9-yard run.
In his brief passing attempts Collins was 2-for-4 for 45 yards.
Following the game freshman quarterback Nick Mitchell announced that he would look to transfer elsewhere.
Collins, who has eight rushing TDs and has scored or thrown for a touchdown in seven of the eight games he has played in will duel with freshman quarterback Marcus McMaryion for next year’s starting job.
— Former Grossmont College heavyweight JORDAN FAGAN, a 6-foot-6, 295-pound sophomore offensive tackle has played in nine of the Fighting Illini’s 12 games.
The Illini planned to have him redshirt but they needed his services right away.
Fagan is only the fourth Grossmont College football player recruited by the Big Ten Conference.
