Four Hawks in double figures in win over Trinity International

COSTA MESA – Four different Hawk players were in double figures as the SDC men’s basketball team defeated Trinity International 87-79 in game two of the Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Vanguard. Trevor English, Dalante Dunklin, and Michael Lambert all tied with a game-high 17 points.

INSIDE THE GAME:
• Both teams held early leads in the first half as a Dunklin layup with 15:52 remaining gave the Hawks an 8-7 lead. SDC would lead for the rest of the game.
• Hawks went on a 20-8 run to give them their biggest lead of the game, 18, as Antonio Austin‘s layup gave SDC a 38-20 advantage.
• Dunklin led the charge with 10 first half points, including 6-of-8 from the free throw line as the Hawks led 43-35 at the break.
• SDC came out strong in the second half with a 10-2 run to get the lead back into double digits, 53-37.
• But the Trojans didn’t give up going on a 15-3 run bringing the deficit back down to four, 56-52 in favor of the Hawks.
• A 3-pointer by TIU’s Grant Corsi brought SDC’s lead to its lowest of the half at two with 11:13 left in the game.
• The Hawks was a perfect 4-for-4 down the stretch in free throws to seal the win.
• SDC shot 49.2 percent from the floor, including 21-of-27 from the charity stripe.
• The Trojans shot 43 percent from the floor.
• SDC outrebounded TIU 41-33 and forced 17 Trojan turnovers.
• Antonio Austin was also in double figures with 10 points and five assists.
STAT OF THE GAME:
• The Hawks held their lead for the last 35:52 in the game.
OUTSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
• The 4-1 record is the best start to a season since the 2006-07 season.

COSTA MESA – Dalante Dunkin scored a game-high 23 points and added 10 rebounds but it wasn’t enough as the Hawks fell to Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday night for their first loss of the season.

• Cal State Dominguez was the one that got off to a fast start leading 10-4 after three minutes of play.
• Dunklin’s free throws gave the Hawks their first lead of the game with 12:09 in the half at 18-17.
• Both teams traded leads until SDC went on an 11-4 run to end the half with a five point lead, 37-32.
• The Hawks led for seven minutes of the second half before the Toros took the 41-40 lead.
• Dunklin and Trevor English teamed up to increase the Hawks lead to six with 11:24 remaining.
• The Toros reclaimed the lead at 56-55 with 3:27 left in the game and didn’t look back.
• Cal State Dominguez Hills shot 40.7 percent from the floor and held SDC under 36 percent.
