GLENDORA (11-25-15) — It was another close one for the Grossmont College women’s basketball team for three quarters. It was that pesky fourth quarter that was the downfall for the Griffins as they fell 57-46 to Citrus.
At the end of the third quarter the Griffins (1-3) were trailing 47-42.
But the Citrus defense locked Grossmont down and only allowed four points.
JAZMINE BRADLEY (Monte Vista) and CHRISTINA BARRAMEDA (Ramona) scored co-team high 12 points. Bradley also led the Griffins with eight rebounds. The downside for the Green and Gold is that no other Griffin scored more than four points.
Janae Chamois came off the bench and scored a game high 16 points for Citrus (2-2). Chamois was joined by a pair of other Owls in double figures.
After trailing 16-13 at the end of the first quarter, the Griffins started the second quarter as Grossmont outscored the Owls 9-2 to take a 22-18 lead. They immediately followed that with a 10-0 run to take a 28-22 lead on their way to a 33-27 advantage at the break.
In the third quarter, the Griffins chipped in on the Owl lead by outscoring the Owls by a 15-14 margin.
The Griffins fourth quarter points came in a span of 40 seconds – all four of them.
Grossmont will celebrate Thanksgiving as a team and will resume their schedule next weekend when they travel to Cypress’ Charger Classic December 4-6. The first round game of the tournament will be against Santa Monica on Friday (Dec. 4) at 4 p.m. Only one other Pacific Coast Athletic Conference team is in the tournament and that is Palomar on the other side of the bracket.
