Hot-shooting Lumberjacks defeat Hawks in Flagstaff

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona shot 51 percent from the floor and held the Hawks under 32 percent defeating SDC 81-65 Monday night. Trevor English led the Hawks with 10 points and was the only one in double figures.
SDC improved from last year’s result against NAU, as the Lumberjacks defeated the Hawks 71-45.

INSIDE THE GAME:
• The Hawks led early in the first half as a Shayne Travers 3-pointer put SDC up 3-2 with 18:48 left in the first.
• Trailing 17-6, SDC went on an 8-2 run to get the score within five thanks to two Josh Richardson free throws.
• The Lumberjacks went into the break up 12, 36-24.
• NAU jumped out in the second half with a 7-0 run. Travers ended the drought for SDC with two free throws.
• SDC went on another big run, 16-4, to bring the deficit back within single digits, trailing NAU 47-40 with 12:35 remaining in the game.
• Daniel Nielsen‘s 3-pointer dropped the deficit to six with 9:27 left but it was the closest the Hawks would get the rest of the game.
• Trevor English led the Hawks with 10 points adding two rebounds on 3-of-9 shooting.
• Michael Lambert added eight points and eight rebounds.
• NAU outrebounded the Hawks 42-36.
• The Hawks continued their strong free-throw percentage on the season, shooting a 75 percent clip, 18-24.
STAT OF THE GAME:
• The Hawks forced 11 turnovers and only turned the ball over seven times, a season low.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• SDC will have one more NCAA Div. I exhibition against Utah State on Jan. 2.

Hawks Battle Back From 27 Points Down, Fall to Cal State San Marcos 69-65
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The SDC men’s basketball team shaved a 27-point deficit to two points with 38 seconds left, but the Cougars were able to hold on for the 69-65 win. The Hawks went on a 45-17 run in the span of 16 minutes.

• The Cougars raced out to a 9-0 lead before Mark Eden hit a 3-pointer with 16:48 remaining in the first.
• Free throws by Trevor English tied the game at 13-13 with 13:40 remaining, the closest the Hawks were since the start of the game.
• Cal State San Marcos ended the first half on a 13-0 run to give them their biggest lead of the game up to that point with a 40-21 advantage heading into the halftime break.
• Hawks shot just 21 percent in the first as the Cougars were 44 percent.
• CSUSM went on another big run to start the second half, a 10-2 jump within the first four minutes.
