LA MESA (11-17-15) — Helix senior running back NATHEN STINSON has committed to play his collegiate football with Northern Arizona University. For his size (5-6, 185) he has been a king-size performer for the Highlanders.
A three-year starter for the top-ranked Highlanders, Stinson was chosen to the First Team All-East County team as a sophomore and as a junior, and first team All-Grossmont Hills League both years as well. He was named East County Offensive Rookie of the Year his sophomore year, and is a sure bet to run the table this year as a senior.
Despite his diminutive size, Stinson was a widely recruited Division I-AA prospect. It’s almost ironic that he’ll be running through the Northern Arizona tall pines much like he did behind a large Helix offense line. Only this time he’ll be running for the Lumberjacks in NAU’s indoor stadium Walkup Skydome.
Stinson has rushed for 3,287 career yards and 47 touchdowns as the Highlanders head into the first round of the San Diego Section CIF Open Division playoffs against Madison Friday (Nov. 20) at 7 p.m. in La Mesa.
