SANTEE – The San Diego Christian Hawks needed a big win on senior night to keep there playoff hopes alive. Exploding with four goals in the first half, the Hawks were able to handle the Hope International Royals.
SDC came out a little flat and gave up a goal in the 17th minute to the Royals. Unfortunately for the Royals, that goal woke the Hawks up and then a scoring frenzy followed.
SDC scored four unanswered goals in the next 28 minutes.
The first of the four goals came from a beautifully ball played from Katherine Daythat Alissa Munguila put away. The scored wasn’t tied for long as Shayna Burman-Petersen took advantage of a goalie error. The ball was kicked straight up in the air and the goalie over ran the ball allowing Burman-Petersen find the back of the net.
Just over ten minutes later junior forward, Katherine Day struck a laser from 35 yards out that found the top right corner of the net. But she wasn’t done there. Day wanted more and 90 seconds later she craved her way through the Royals defense and scored the 4th SDC goal of the game.
The Hawks went into halftime with a 4-1 advantage.
The Royals came out firing in the 2nd half and scored six minutes into the half to bring the SDC advantage to 4-2. Luckily for the rest of the game, the Hawks kept the Royals pretty quiet. SDC had a solid defensive effort from senior defender Samantha Schmidt.
That win brings the Hawks to 9-5-1, 4-4 GSAC and the loss drops HIU to 10-4-2, 4-4 GSAC. SDC will be back on the field Thursday afternoon to host their final home game against the William Jessup Warriors. Kickoff is set for 12 PM.
