ATHERTON – After trailing just eight minutes into the game, the San Diego Christian men’s soccer team score two unanswered goals, one in overtime, to defeat Menlo 2-1 Saturday afternoon.

Borja Suarez scored in the 33rd minute and Alex Saliba scored the game winner as his upper 90 shot in the 94th minute gave the Hawks the golden-goal win.

With the win, the Hawks improve to 7-4 on the season and 2-1 in GSAC play. The Oaks fall to 7-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference.

Menlo scored on their first attempt of the game with just 8:02 into the half. Robert McCowan scored off an assist from Luis Nunez.

Twenty-five second later, the Hawks looked to get on the board but Pedro Henrique‘s shot went too high.

Henrique had another attempt to level the score, this time from the penalty spot. But his shot was saved and out for a corner kick keeping Menlo’s 1-0 lead.

SDC finally broke the Menlo defense in the 33rd minute as Suarez scored 12 minute before half for his sixth goal of the season.

Menlo outshot the Hawks 5-4 in the first.

Both teams saw nothing going for them in the second half. Each team tallied four shots. SDC put two on frame, while Josh Epstein added one save in the second.

In the extra frame, Saliba blasted his shot past the Oaks keeper in the top shelf providing the Hawks with the win.
