SANTEE (9-30-15) — Veteran coach MICKEY DEUTSCHMAN will make his second baseball coaching tour at West Hills High School this season as he takes the reins from MIKE HARWELL.
Deutschman was the pitching coach under then-head coach SCOTT “HOPPY” HOPGOOD during the 2005-06 seasons for the Wolf Pack. He mentored such talents as Major League sensation STEPHEN STRASBURG of the Washington Nationals and left-handed curve specialist AARON RICHARDSON.
A longtime coach of the semipro San Diego Stars baseball team, Deutschman has won more than 1,000 games and has been named to the National Semipro Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, which will open its doors in Evansville, IN in November of this year.
Deutchman, affectionately known as “Mickey D,” has been involved in various levels of baseball in Santee and nationally for more than 30 years.
