Hawks sweep Benedictine for best start since ’03

MESA, Ariz. – With a sweep of Benedictine University, the SDC Women’s Volleyball team is off to its best start of the season since 2003 as the Hawks improve to 5-1 overall.

SDC took Game 1 25-19, 25-22, 25-23 and Game 2 25-17, 25-19, 17-25, 25-19 to increase their winning streak to five games.

With the losses, the Redhawks drop their first games all year and fall to 4-2.

Juliana Gutnecht led the team with 15 kills in Game 1. Ashlyn Riding tallied 37 assists. The Hawks held a 44 percent hitting percentage compared to just 22 percent from Benedictine.

In Game 2, it was Alli Beezer who contributed the most kills with 20. Gutknecht was next with 13. Bevan Haskell was a force at the net totaling six blocks.

The Hawks will kick off GSAC play on Tuesday as they host Hope International. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
