Red Hawks can’t complete hat trick against Army-Navy

CARLSBAD – Visiting Mountain Empire dropped a decision to a resurgent-looking Army-Navy squad on Friday night, 33-17.

Mountain Empire junior quarterback VICTOR PARRA had several completions for nice yardage, including a 36-yard connection to ALEX TORRES, who won a 50-50 tug-of-war with the defensive back inside the 10-yard line. Parra had a 1-yard sneak to make it 21-10 in the third quarter.

The Red Hawks were driving to pull to within a touchdown when Army-Navy came up with an interception to end the comeback threat for the most park..

Next week, Mountain Empire travels to California Military Institute in Perris.

The Red Hawks opened with a 49-20 loss to Flintridge Prep in Los Angeles.

The Red Hawks had won the previous two meetings with the Warriors.

Sophomore BLAKE JARRELL was cited as the Red Hawks’ Player of the Game, by the Mountain Empire coaching staff, as he finished with nine tackles and blocked a pair of field goal attempts. He also caught a pass for 14 yards.

Parra was 14-for-24 for 163 yards, while JAMES WILL led the ground game with 42 yards on 19 carries for the Red Hawks.

Parra’s top target was WYATT MANN, who hauled in five catches for 65 yards, including a touchdown. Torres has three receptions for 69 yards.

 

Returning junior Vic Parra takes the snaps, and is flanked by an athletic corps of receivers. James Braswell provides a pass-catching threat from the tight end slot, along with wide-outs Alex Torres and Blake Jerrell.

JONATHAN PENUELAS and ERIC GUTIERREZ combined for a sack for Mountain Empire’s defense.
