VS
SANTEE, Calif. – A first half goal from Pedro Henrique and a second half goal from Borja Suarez was enough as the SDC Men’s Soccer team defeated La Sierra 2-0 on Thursday to extend their season-long shutout streak to 360 minutes.
With the win, SDC improves to 4-0 on the season while the Golden Eagles fall to 0-2.
Henrique got the Hawks on the board with a goal in the 26th minute off a pass from Suarez. Henrique’s goal was his fifth on the season, which ties the most in the country. Suarez tallied his fourth assist on the season.
The Hawks led La Sierra in shots for the first half, 6-2. None of the shots for the Golden Eagles found the target as Ryan Huertafinished the 90 minutes without registering a save.
SDC looked to add another goal 12 seconds into the second half. Joseph Fortini drilled a shot on the left side but it went just an inch too high over the crossbar.
That wasn’t the only chance in the second half as the Hawks tallied 14 shots in the frame.
The Hawks added their second and last goal of the game in the 79th minute. After the La Sierra goalie picked up the ball outside of the penalty box, Francisco Ramirez quickly passed the free kick to Suarez who placed the ball in the right side of the net for a 2-0 lead.
SDC will travel to San Diego State and take on the NCAA Div. I Aztecs in an exhibition on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
