Visiting Mountain Empire fell behind Flintridge Prep Academy 20-0 in the first half and never recovered as the Firebirds captured a lop-sided 49-20 victory in Saturday’s (Aug. 29) non-league opener at Occidental College in Los Angeles.
The Red Hawks, who had two touchdowns called back due to holding penalties, were led by JAMES WILL. The senior running back rushed for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns on 13 carries for Mountain Empire.
Quarterback VICTOR PARRA clicked on 8 of 15 passes for 111 yards and a scoring strike to senior ALEX TORRES. Parra also garnered 38 yards on only two carries. Torres finished with 5 receptions for 87 yards.
The Red Hawks trailed 28-20 early in the 4th quarter before surrendering 21 unanswered points to the Rebels.
