SANTEE – In a game that was no contest from the beginning, Santana hosted the Southwest San Diego Raiders in Santee (Aug. 28) in front of the Sultans faithful and came away with the 54-0 victory.
The Sultans jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead thanks to a 75-yard strike from FRANKIE GUTIERREZ to BOBBY WALLACE and would lead 44-0 after the first quarter. These two paced the Sultans all night as Wallace finished with three touchdowns of which two were rushing and the other was the long reception.
Wallace finished with 134 total yards on the evening. Gutierrez, the senior QB, passed for 126 yards on 6-6 and tossed 3 touchdowns before he was done after the first quarter.
Besides the offense that got the Sultans rolling, the defense got into the act as they limited the Raiders to a grand total of 22 yards and limited them to one first down the entire game. The defense totaled 4 sacks for the evening and ONI SABANDIT intercepted a Raider pass and took it to the house for 31 yards in the first quarter.
Santana led 51-0 at the half so the entire second half was played with a running clock. The Sultans put together an all-around effort against the Raiders and the 54 points was the fourth highest ever in school history. The last time the Sultans scored more than 50 points was in 2011 when they beat up on Central Union 56-6.
