LINDA VISTA (8-26-15) — The U. S. Men’s National Volleyball Team played Brazil’s National Team at University of San Diego’s Jenny Craig Pavilion on Tuesday (Aug. 25) as part of the USA Volleyball Cup and lost three sets to none.
Granite Hills Alum DAVID LEE is a member of the National team but did not participate in the matchup.
“Tonight was more a battle of second teams,” Lee said after the match. “We kinda were giving the guys that haven’t played too much the last couple of weeks some court time. We had a chance to win that match but there were a few too many overpasses and service errors.”
The USA will finish the USA Volleyball Cup against Brazil this week with matches tonight at USC’s Galen Center and on Saturday at UC Irvine’s Bren center.
After those matches, the team will travel to Japan for the World Cup and the first opportunity to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics. “This is actually the first time that the US could qualify at the World Cup,” Lee proclaimed. “Usually we qualify in our regional, but we have a good shot at skipping that and getting it done in Japan.”
Also participating in the match was the WEST HILLS girls’ volleyball team as they helped as the ball girls. What helped the Wolf Pack be a part of the match is that the head coach is none other than the 1984 Men’s Gold Medal winning team setter, ERIC SOTO.
