EL CAJON (8-23 -15) — After guiding the El Cajon Valley Braves boys’ basketball team for six years, coach MARTY ELLIS is moving on. He will become the coach of the Olympian Eagles beginning in the fall of 2015.
Ellis has had a major impact on the boys basketball program at El Cajon Valley during his tenure with the Braves. After going winless (0-27) in the first year he coached the Braves, the team progressed steadily, winning the Grossmont Valley League championship for the first time in school history in 2012-13 – Ellis’s third year at the helm – with a 19-9 record.
It happened again in 2014-15 when the Braves not only won the Grossmont Valley League championship, they went on to capture the CIF San Diego Section Division III championship, and Ellis was named Coach of the Year by several media outlets, including EastCountySports.com.
Ellis’s overall record is a misleading 72-91. The pinnacle of his career with the Braves came in his last three seasons when his teams compiled a 62-25 record.
Ellis will remain at El Cajon Valley in his teaching capacity.
Olympian is getting a gem.
